Purple Grain for AI assistants

Connector documentation · api.purplegrain.com/mcp

Purple Grain is a farm records and contracting platform for Australian growers. Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your account and it can read your properties, paddocks, mobs, tasks and records, and make changes on your behalf. This page says exactly what an assistant can see and do, and what it can never touch.

What an assistant can read

With a read-only or read-and-write grant in a business, an assistant can read everything you can see there:

  • Properties, their boundaries and the map
  • Paddocks and mobs, including current crop, head count and where a mob is
  • Tasks, with their sub-tasks and who they are assigned to
  • Records: drench and other treatments, husbandry, spray, fertiliser, sowing and field work, with the withholding dates worked out from them
  • The treatment register and NVD list for any mob or the whole property
  • The business and its team, as shown on the Team page

What an assistant can change

With a read-and-write grant in a business, an assistant can create, edit and delete:

  • Records and tasks, including the typed details (product, batch, dose, withholding) and photos you attach
  • Paddocks and mobs, their names, head counts and boundaries
  • The business itself and its team, within what your own role allows
  • Its own access grants, by asking you in the chat and acting on your yes

It starts with the access your role allows

When you connect, the assistant is granted read and write in every business where you are an owner, admin or manager, and on your personal account. Where you are a contractor or viewer it gets read only. You can narrow any grant, per business, from Settings or the AI assistants page; the change applies straight away and the assistant stays connected.

If the assistant tries a change its grant does not allow, it tells you which business and what access it lacks, and offers to widen the grant where your role permits. You confirm in the chat, and we email you.

Every change is confirmed

An assistant shows you what it is about to do and waits for your yes before it writes. It never acts on a schedule or in the background. A connection can be revoked at any time; the assistant then has to be reconnected to use Purple Grain again.

Nothing is invented

An assistant records what you say and what is legible in the photo. It does not fill in a batch number, dose, expiry or withholding period it cannot see; it leaves the field empty and tells you. Label defaults it knows are proposed as such, for you to confirm.

Deletes are permanent

A record, task, paddock or mob the assistant deletes with your confirmation is gone. There is no undo. Treat a delete request the way you would treat deleting it yourself.

Off limits

No assistant, with any grant, can:

  • Sign in as you, or read or change your password, verification codes or sessions
  • Send, accept or change invitations and join links
  • Change your subscription or anything to do with billing
  • See businesses you are not a member of, or data outside the grants you set
